Spotlight on Corruption has written to the Serious Fraud Office to call for action to recover any assets in the UK that are the proceeds of corruption belonging to the Ahsani family − the key players behind the Unaoil bribery scandal.
Our letter, sent on 16 February 2023, follows an original enquiry sent in October 2021 setting out Spotlight’s concerns about the failure to investigate reports that a member of the Ahsani family had used the proceeds of their corrupt dealings to invest millions of pounds in UK assets.
The letter states: “Now that the UK proceedings have concluded, and following Saman Ahsani’s recent sentencing in the US, we would be grateful for details of any action being taken in relation to those proceeds and for the opportunity to discuss this with you.”
